Here are five factors that can lead to the erosion of democratic societies:
1. Economic Inequality: When wealth is concentrated in the hands of a few, it can undermine equal representation and access to resources.
It is not click bait. It is not reality TV dramatic. It is dry bare bones FACTS. We are living it in this moment. The downward spiral of our economy into a recession is textbook. When people are losing their jobs, the resources that have been shut down by the current administration without thought or consideration of the needs of the American people but only the focus of the greed of the American billionaire- the farmer, the laborer, the public servant, the federal government worker, all are suffering especially those who make the federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. The perspective has previously been voiced aloud “You should be grateful you have a job.” to those who were working without pay during the previous government shutdowns. When “leadership” looks at a roomful of angry employees who have just been told they would not be getting paid due to a preventable thing such as a government shutdown and tells them they should feel lucky they have a job- it makes sense as to why we get to these pivotal moments. Enough is enough. Elections are so important- we must have elected officials who stand up for working people and not for billionaire donors. Any elected official who received money from billionaire donors and then pretends to be for working people is playing on your feelings and not operating from FACTS. REMEMBER THE THEME: FACTS NOT FEELINGS. SHOW YOUR WORK: WHAT HAVE YOU DONE FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THAT WILL SHOW YOUR DEVOTION TO YOUR CONSTITUENTS AND NOT RICH DONORS. FACTS NOT FEELINGS.
2. Erosion of Trust: Loss of faith in institutions and leaders can lead people to seek alternative forms of governance.
TRUST IS EARNED NOT JUST GIVEN. The entitlement of candidates running for office and just stating they will fight for you and that is enough- no- stating the obvious is not enough. FACTS NOT FEELINGS: what have you done to show that you are a fighter for the working class voter? Are you strong enough to stand on your own values and principals and not be swayed one way or another by meaningful handlers? You have to be strong enough to speak on your platform without dodging the question or you unfortunately are no better than what the current status quo has become- political spin. FACTS NOT FEELINGS: what are your policies? SHOW YOUR WORK: What have you done to show you will advocate for those who need it the most? Be strong now because you will have to be FEARLESS in the TRENCHES. FACTS NOT FEELINGS.
3. Media Manipulation: Misinformation and biased media can polarize societies and erode democratic discourse.
If I could shout from the mountaintop on this one: FACTS NOT FEELINGS! Misinformation is a super long and fancy word for LIES. PERIOD. Every time I hear misinformation, disinformation, spin, bias without any accountability- I dig deep into my core values: FACTS NOT FEELINGS. You need to be able to recognize what is verified FACT versus media spin that is meant to distract you with feeling of some kind. It is awful that we are at a point in this society that media is presenting information as truth when it is in fact lies and media spin- both sides are guilty of this- SO AGAIN: FACTS NOT FEELINGS. Present the facts in the news and when people want to spiral down because they cannot handle the “misinformation” or even the truth of what is happening in the world- hang in there- work thru the emotions if you can- then jump back in the trenches. Do NOT give up on FACTS NOT FEELINGS.
4. Concentration of Power: When power becomes centralized in a few hands, it can limit checks and balances essential for democracy. FACTS NOT FEELINGS: What will you do when you are in the minority of what is best for your constituents and what your elected colleagues want you to do? WILL YOU REMEMBER WHO VOTED FOR YOU? SHOW YOUR WORK: What have you done to stand up for the rights of working people? FACTS NOT FEELINGS
5. Social Unrest: Economic hardship, inequality, or perceived injustice can lead to instability, making societies more vulnerable to authoritarian shifts. FACTS NOT FEELINGS: Are you watching costs skyrocket? Are you watching the increase in numbers at the food banks? Are you seeing our homeless population increase? Are you seeing more people having to cancel their health insurance because it was already not affordable and now it is laughable. FACTS NOT FEELINGS: SHOW YOUR WORK: what have you done to help working people who are struggling to put food on the table, keep a roof over the heads of their families- to keep the lights on? How is this 2025- the age of the most advanced technology in history of mankind and yet we are having real world discussions of onset of economic depression? FACTS NOT FEELINGS: What can you do to reduce the rate of inflation? Are you willing to stand up for the poorest in this country? FACTS NOT FEELINGS. IF you can answer these questions without spin- but with TRUTH- you will in fact have earned my VOTE. Thank you.
